at least that's what they said 

but still you feel sheltered

and you even feel alone

when they're right next to you in bed

is this love

always having to say you're sorry

is this love that you're feeling

so please don't blame love 

when you saw an illusion 

that gave you a false sense of security

and put you in a state of confusion

it happens to the best of us

you put your cards on the table

but they weren't playing with a full deck

so they never deserved the label 

of the one that had your heart

although they may deserve the finger

then again it's best to move on

you cannot let those feelings linger 

but you want to know now 

if you could ever love again

just remember it was their loss

and you without them is a win

keep that love you have for yourself

it will help you let go of your fears 

then it won't matter if it's just you for now

because that love never disappears

This is me

for a supporting role 

which wasn't smart

as someone didn't play their part

so since you gave them your heart

what are you trying to imply

theft by deception 

not even close besides

your heart was under protection

until you believed in the lie

and do you know why

you just wanted to be happy 

now you feel defeated 

after being mistreated 

plus your being treated for depression

when it's more like pent-up aggression

but you've already had like 6 sessions 

and anxiety attacks in succession

so it must be depression

you just wanted to be happy 

don't give up 

no matter what

but change your way of being

so that you know what you're seeing

is not happiness

but something else

something you never wanted

Ode To Depression

I found it unkind
how it messes with your mind
it has you thinking everything is fine
meanwhile inside you're dying
and outside you're crying
as you've reached the end of the line
it makes you keep your distance
and when someone offers help
you always offer resistance 
until it tells you to get therapy
complete with happy pills
and free refills
which has the tendency 
to cause codependency 
but I'm too stubborn to be an addict
so before my mood became too erratic
I stopped
and changed my focus
hoping it wouldn't notice
because it never has full control 
that's what it wants
so if you beat it once 
you can do it again for good this time
if you don't like the way it makes you feel
then it's your job to show it what's real
it can make you turn cold
but that's where you have to be bold
because who you want to be
will help change what you see
so if you have the faith
you can make it
know that you don't have to take it 
be brave to it
and not a slave to it 
say goodbye to it
then wave to it

I have so much I want to say 
if somebody wants to hear it
maybe it's all in my head
and this is the only way to clear it

my heart keeps trying to talk 
it's impossible to keep quiet
accused of loving too much 
I should put it on a diet

some perceive me as being angry
they'll do anything to keep me there
I feel like I'm in shackles
the ones my ancestors use to wear

others wish to throw jabs 
I'm thinking maybe this abuse is fair
then I'm made to be a scapegoat
like I'm always playing truth or dare

I pick truth for the record
but if you dare me to succeed
I'll exceed any of your expectations
I have all the motivation I need

we're not back in the fields 
did you forget I'm educated
but I would be a fool 
to believe I've actually made it

still I should give myself some credit
for being brave enough to go for it
or I could just quit right now
and have nothing to show for it

maybe I'm being paranoid 
and it's really all in my head
but someone may get the horns
if I can't keep from seeing red

They can never destroy you
and although it may annoy you
to see them keep trying
you know you would be lying
if you say you weren't flattered
because your dreams have never shattered
and your faith has never wavered
just think of all the days you've labored
hustling in silence
never resorting to violence
letting your success make noise
much respect for showing poise
but if you think they're taking a break
then you're making a mistake
the moment they catch you off guard
they'll be coming at you hard
they'll be aiming for your heart
but if they were really smart
they wouldn't bother to take the shot
because the only chance they've got
is really no chance at all
still they pray for you to fall
your confidence begins to rise
and so begins the lies
it's just another distraction
failing to cause a chain reaction
leaving them with nothing more to say
maybe it's better that way
because there's no explanation needed
and no reason to get heated
so if they should ever annoy you
remember they can never destroy you

If you can't make someone love you
why place that person above you
with the pedestal sitting so high
you won't know if they're telling a lie
you would believe their every word
forgetting anything else you've heard
all because of how you feel
and because of that it has to be real
but you can't make someone love you
so why place that person above you
it doesn't show them how much you care
if they don't even know you're there
and if they fail to acknowledge your presence
how will they understand your essence
it's everything that makes up who you are
you're everything that shines like a star
still you can't make someone love you
then why place that person above you
don't let this make you look weak
you already possess the strength you seek
so your love story may be in need of a sequel
just find someone who will see you as an equal
then show them why they should never regret you
and because of that they will never forget you

Good morning and welcome to the day you decide whether or not to change your temperature. If you truly believe that you can live the rest of your life like that, go stand outside and see if you really like the way it feels. To all of the believers out there
I wish you the very best
but if I may express a few words 
that I hope you take with you on your quest
stop focusing on what it is that you lack
and don't worry about who has your back 
because if you don't look where you're going
you'll have no way of knowing where you are
unless it feels like the past 
in which case you should get out of there fast
start catching the dreams that you're chasing
and worry less about the problems that you're facing 
if you cannot change the results
because it's much easier to embrace these faults 
than to treat them as weaknesses 
so don't give them the satisfaction 
or face the consequences for your interaction
also if you're too scared to take a chance 
then don't ask your dreams if they want to dance
because you'll be too afraid to take the lead 
which will hurt your chances to succeed
so your initiative can take you far
by just being the leader that you are
you're already in it deep
because you decided that your dreams
are not just the dreams 
that you have when you're asleep
so for all of our sake
stay awake
because you've got history to make

Killjoy

There's always that one 
who thinks it's fun
if you don't have any fun
let's call them killjoy
you say to yourself look out
when really you needed a lookout
because you didn't see that one coming
carefully disguised as part of your team
in hopes of destroying your dream 
their plans were deployed
then became unemployed
meaning they didn't work
which makes you wonder
if the spell you were under wore off
or were you just immune to it
perhaps you were just attune to it
so it really wasn't a big deal yet
because to you it wasn't a real threat 
only a warning shot
then again
the bullet came at you 
so the gun had to be aimed at you
unless the bullet was led astray 
but either way 
there's always that one
and you know what they're all about
so beware of their whereabouts
they're closer than they appear
and if they appear to be sincere
be careful 
because they can careless  
laying waste to anyone in their path
you can hear them laugh
because they think it's fun
if you don't have any fun
call them killjoy
