Last Time

I want nothing less than the best for you
but you've entered a world that I cannot follow
not anymore 
because the last time I was there 
I couldn't breathe 
even if it doesn't bring you peace 
perhaps it will bring you happiness
for that's something you need right now
something you haven't had in a while 
and something you never thought you would have again
I haven't abandoned you 
but it's important that I stay alive
just in case it's you that can no longer breathe
I want to make sure that I'm at my best 
not to save you 
but to help you save yourself 
because that's how much you mean to me
you needed a way out
and I can understand that 
but I made my choice before you made yours
so if you should need a way out again
I will be here
because the last time I was there
I couldn't breathe
