Shield Your Eyes

You shouldn't have to see this 
but it's unavoidable 
and we have only ourselves to blame 
how could we be so careless 
look at the world we're leaving behind 
what chance do you have now 
of course you have a chance 
but we could do a lot better
this hasn't been our best efforts 
and it keeps getting worse 
you shouldn't have to see this
but it's inevitable 
even if we shield your eyes 
that won't make it any less ugly
or any less disturbing 
so what's the point 
there's no hiding this from you 
especially not now 
we should be ashamed of ourselves 
for this world we're leaving behind 
because we're creating this chaos 
maybe we shouldn't shield your eyes
not if you're ever going to make it 
you need to see everything that's coming
