Prove yourself 
for what 
because they told you to 
who are they
here's a better question 
who were they
fighters 
battle tested 
veterans of war 
mentors for future generations 
but who are they now
critics 
judgemental 
ignorant of other's feelings 
forgetful of their own past 
trust me 
prove nothing to them
only to yourself 
they don't matter 
not as much as you do 
be your own hero 
make yourself better each day 
prove to yourself 
by being everything they're not
