Nobody

When you learn a life lesson 
you should never be the same 
as you were before 
I've learned the hardest lesson of all
nobody owes you anything 
even if you treat someone 
the way you'd like to be treated 
nobody owes you anything 
of course it would be nice
if we all cared just a little bit more 
but we expect too much 
from one another 
I know that now 
we talk about wanting loyalty 
building trust 
and demanding respect 
some of us don't even respect ourselves
let alone trust ourselves  
the day will come 
when all we have left are memories 
how do you want to be remembered 
do you want to be remembered at all
you owe it to yourself to be better 
nobody owes you anything
