We'll Always Know

Everything changed that day 
but we wouldn't know in what way 
until after we departed
because see that's when it started
and after everything we both went through
it was safe to say that we both grew
maybe we both knew all along
not that we did anything wrong
but our feelings were hurt in the process
even though we've both made progress
we've took steps that were necessary 
down a path that was very scary 
learning all lessons is a must 
but now people have become harder to trust
so where does that leave us 
where does that leave us 
are we still connected 
or has our thinking become so infected
that it's simply too late 
maybe all we can do is wait
but no matter what the universe decides
we've all impacted each other's lives
so even if we cannot be what we were before
we're definitely not strangers anymore
